New DLHE Report Demo Guide: School of Media, Film & Music

School of Media, Film and Music Summary

Data obtained as part of the 2017 DLHE collection shows that recent graduates from the school have performed well in some destinations areas after leaving the university.

  • The graduate level employment data shows that 69% of employed leavers were in graduate level work, which is 11% below the institutional average of 80%.
  • Those leavers who reported that they were still seeking employment six months after graduating is 1% above the institutional average at 5%.
  • The further study rate for the school shows 20% of leavers choosing to undertake further study, which is 10% below the university average of 30%.
  • 62% of leavers are in any form of employment, which is 3% above the average.
  • These figures all contribute to producing a performance indicator (PI)* score of 72% for the school which is 11% below the institutional score of 83%.

Department Summary

Media Studies

The department has performed well with above average employment rates.

  • The graduate level employment figure is 11% below the average of all Sussex departments with 69% of employed leavers being in graduate level work.
  •  The overall employment figure at 64% is 5% above the university average of 59%.
  • The rate of unemployment for leavers from the department is above the school average at 5% although this is only four individuals.
  • Leavers from this department chose to undertake further study at a much lower rate than the university average with 17% of leavers choosing to study.
  • This data gives the department a PI score of 71%, which is 12% below the university average.

Music

The department and their graduates have recorded some excellent outcomes this year.

  • The overall employment rate of 56% is 3% below the average rate across all departments.
  • 70% of these leavers are in graduate level employment, 10% below the university average.
  • Leavers have performed strongly in terms of unemployment with 6% indicting that they were still seeking work, although this is only one individual.
  • The further study rate for the department of 33% is above the institutional average of 30% and has contributed to reduce the impact of the low graduate employment rate.
  • This data gives the department a PI score of 76%, which is 7% below the university average of 83%.
