Data obtained as part of the 2017 DLHE collection shows that recent graduates from the school have performed well in some areas after leaving the university.

  • The graduate level employment data shows that 74% of employed leavers were in graduate level work, which is 6% below the institutional average of 80%.
  • Those leavers who reported that they were still seeking employment six months after graduating matches the institutional average at 4%.
  • The further study rate for the school show 30% of leavers choosing to undertake further study, matching the university average of 30%
  • 58% of leavers are in any form of employment, which is just 1% below the average.
  • These figures all contribute to producing a performance indicator (PI)* score of 79% for the school 4% below the institutional score of 83%.

American Studies

The department has performed well across the main outcomes group of graduate level employment.

  • The graduate level employment figure is well above the average of all Sussex departments with 81% of employed leavers being in graduate level work, which is 1% above average. The overall employment figure at 62% is 3% above the university average of 59%.
  • The rate of unemployment for leavers from the department is above the school average at 7% although this is only three individuals.
  • Leavers from this department chose to undertake further study at a lower rate than the university average with 26% of leavers choosing to study.
  • This data gives the department a PI score of 80%, which is 3% below the university average.

Art History

The department is a strong performer and their graduates have recorded some excellent outcomes this year.

  • The overall employment rate of 58% is only 1% below the average rate across all departments.
  • 79% of these leavers are in graduate level employment, 1% below the university average.
