The Big Four accountancy firms, PwC, Deloitte, Ernst & Young and KPMG audit most of the accounts for big firms and control around 35% of the market in the UK

These firms hire a large number of people and dominate many areas of business, such as audit

However, other big and successful firms exist in this area, and it is possible to get very good experience at smaller firms

Getting Into Accountancy

Accountancy doesn't require a specialised degree, but good academic results are expected

To train as an accountant, the first step is to find a company to hire you as a trainee

Following this, training is done with a professional body and usually takes around three years
